WATER MILL, NY–Cardona & Company joins the Life Insurance awareness campaign this September to mark the 12th anniversary of Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM), an effort to raise awareness about the need for life insurance.

Americans by and large aren’t saving much money and many households are still mired in debt. Many see value in life insurance, but less than half have individual life insurance policies.

For Anthony Cardona, President of Cardona & Company, the need for life insurance hits close to home.

“My wife lost her parents when she was very young. With three younger siblings, life insurance helped lessen the blow for the family,” Mr. Cardona said. “While no one wants to think about needing life insurance, it’s one of the best things you can do for your loved ones should you no longer be around take care of them and unfortunately most people are underinsured.”

Research shoes that most people understand the needs for life insurance, yet they continue to focus on more short-term financial goals. Based on statistics from LIMRA, an international trade association for the financial services industry, many Americans are very underinsured. According to LIMRA’s 2015 Insurance Barometer Study:

• 30 percent of Americans believe they need more life insurance.
• 43 percent said they would feel a financial impact within 6 months if the primary wage-earner died.
• 54 percent say it is unlikely they will purchase life insurance within the next 12 months.

The annual campaign, designed to educate and raise awareness about the benefits of life insurance, is coordinated annually by the nonprofit organization Life Happens® as part of a nationwide effort that brings together more than 100 companies and organizations together. This year’s campaign is being spearheaded by LIAM celebrity spokesperson, Anthony Anderson, star of hit TV show Black-ish and host of Eating America.
